Commencement Ceremonies
Master's and Specialist Degrees
PRE-CEREMONY INFORMATION
- Apply for graduation at the beginning of the semester you plan on graduating, Graduate Application for Degree/Commencement.
- All graduates are to purchase a cap, gown and hood at the University Bookstore for approximately $55.00.
- If you need your gowns and caps shipped, call the University Bookstore at 715-232-1235, or e-mail: manager@uwstoutbookstore.com. All orders are shipped via UPS ground, at approximate rate of $8.00.
- Gown size is based on the graduate's height and weight. Caps are one size fits all.
- Honors are not assessed at the graduate level, therefore no graduate students wear honor cords.
HOODING INSTRUCTIONS DURING CEREMONY FOR MASTER'S DEGREES
- The order in which you process in for the ceremony is Specialist, Master and Undergraduate Degrees.
- You will receive your degrees after the undergraduate degrees.
- The assistant vice chancellor will request you to rise and will present you to the chancellor for the conferment of degrees.
- You will proceed to the stage, with hood folded on your right arm, in the same manner as the undergraduate candidates did.
- Hand your name card to the name reader.
- As your name is read, start toward the podium, hand hood to the Graduate School representative, face the audience and the hood will be placed.
- Proceed across the stage to the chancellor to receive your degree.
- Return to your seat and be seated.
HOODING INSTRUCTIONS DURING CEREMONY FOR EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST DEGREES
- The order in which you process in for the ceremony is Specialist, Master and Undergraduate Degrees.
- You are the last graduates to receive your degrees.
- You will be presented to the chancellor and the chancellor will confer the degree.
- You will move to the center aisle where a Commencement Marshal will escort candidates to the stage to be announced and hooded.
- After you receive your degree, you will wait at the bottom of the ramp for a Commencement Marshal to escort you back to your seats.
- Remain standing until the assistant vice chancellor presents an invitation to be seated.
