UW-Stout has several options available for connection to distant sites! Voice, video and data-based systems are available for course offerings, professional development, conferences and meetings. Some of the available technologies are tied to dedicated facilities and other systems can be relocated to be used in settings on and off campus.
Teaching and conferencing technologies include:- Interactive Video (videoconferencing)
- Web Conferencing (includes LiveMeeting and Breeze)
- Audio Conferencing (Stout, WisLine)
- Satellite Conferencing
To schedule an event, make a scheduling request.
Interactive video allows participants at both ends of the connection to see and hear each other as they meet. There are currently two types of video technology available at UW-Stout: internet-based (IP) and telephone-based (ISDN). Several options are available with each:
Multi-point video is available via BadgerNet Converged Network and ICS Video Bridge; point-to-point video is available via on-campus systems.
We also have two PolyCom ViaVideo systems available for check out. These are desktop video conference systems.
Webconferencing features the use of web-based meeting software. We can help you with participation in a webconference you've registered for, and can help you set up a conference you'd like to host.
If you'd like to participate in a webconference that is offered to you, please contact us for any help you might need. If you need a room in which to participate, one of our distance education labs can be scheduled, to allow additional people to participate in the event. There are many webconference hosting services providing programs and events.
If you're interested in hosting a webconference, we're happy to assist you with the planning, scheduling and a room if needed. Commonly known as "WisLine Web," we currently use Microsoft LiveMeeting, along with an audio connection via telephone line, and Breeze. Webconferencing services are provided by UW-Extension Instructional Communications Services (ICS). Participants can follow the presentation using their web-connected computer, while interacting with others in the conference. Webconferencing can be used individually at your desk or in a room environment. For updated information about Breeze, please follow this link.
Audioconferencing, also referred to as teleconferencing or conference calling, allows a number of people to participate in a discussion using a regular phone, headset or speakerphone. Audioconferencing can be as simple as a three-way call, or can include many participants with various features such as recording, streaming, playback, etc.
For a three-way conference, please see these instructions.
Satellite Conferencing allows participants to view a presentation linked to UW-Stout via satellite transmission. Satellite presentations can be live or they can be pre-recorded, but they are not fully interactive. Presenters are not able to see or hear the participants at the various sites. However, such satellite conferences are often made more interactive by the provision of an e-mail, fax or telephone connection so viewers can communicate their questions or comments during the presentation. For more information about satellite conferencing, contact Sue Tkachuk, 715-232-1143, tkachuks@uwstout.edu.
If you are interested in producing a satellite presentation and uplinking it to other sites, please see the Video Production Services page.
