The program director is responsible for the total curriculum of his/her program, and charged with aiding the students in meeting all requirements for that program.

Organize and chair the program advisory committee

  1. Conduct advisory committee meetings at least twice per year
  2. Ensure appropriate membership on advisory committee, including outside representation

Curriculum Management and Coordination

  1. Take leadership in developing, evaluating, and revising the curriculum for the program with the major program committee and dean
  2. Meet and monitor certification and accreditation requirements with the dean.
  3. Prepare accreditation report/materials
  4. Include requirements and changes mandated by UW System policy into the program
  5. Work across campus to meet/gather needs of program and materials required
  6. Oversee the development of cohort/ customized instruction program development

Coordinate Assessment in the Major

  1. Annually prepare plans in cooperation with the principal faculty and department(s) for the assessment of students in the major as required by the Academic Quality Plan
  2. In conjunction with the faculty, take leadership in developing and implementing an assessment plan for the major.
  3. Write and submit annual assessment report
  4. Prepare PRC report every seven years
  5. Evaluate quality of lab facilities including equipment and materials and report needs to department chair and dean
  6. Perform other program improvement activities deemed necessary by the program advisory committee and/or dean

Coordinate Recruitment and Retention

  1. Plan and implement program-specific recruitment activities to recruit both new and transfer students, in coordination with the Admissions Office or Graduate School, Advisory Committee, faculty and dean
  2. In coordination with faculty, conduct and cooperate in follow-up studies of graduates of the major program

Partnership Development

  1. Develop sites for student experiential learning, including co-ops, internships and field experiences
  2. Collaborate with the Career Services office in the employment of graduates
  3. Work with the Foundation Office and deans to pursue funding for scholarships, equipment donations, travel, etc., through advisory committee members and program partners

Academic Advisement System

  1. Develop a primary academic advisement system for students enrolled in or interested in the major program
  2. Ensure that each student has a faculty advisor to provide guidance in meeting program requirements for graduation
  3. Graduate Program Directors: serve as or assist in determining investigation advisor for thesis/graduate research
  4. Develop and update program advisement materials. Put these on the webpage, and provide printed copies
  5. Provide training and orientation for faculty advisors and advisement center staff

Leadership

  1. Serve on the school/college administrative council
