The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest is an annual event designed to pull students away from conventional problem solving and push them to even greater imaginative and intuitive thought. For the contest, teams are given a simple challenge for which they must create a machine - an assembly of ordinary objects, mechanical gadgets, and the oddest odds and ends - to solve the problem in a complicated and convoluted way. This year's challenge is for teams to switch a normal not so eco friendly incandescent light bulb with a different more efficient light emitting device. The more steps involved in the process - there's a minimum of 20 - the better.
